The centre Mersenne, an open access publishing platform for scientific publications, has been using Crossref‘s services for 15 years. Since our first DOI assignment in 2011—as Cedram—our collaboration with Crossref has grown considerably and has transformed how we manage and disseminate scientific publications.
In 2018, when Cedram became the centre Mersenne, our practices evolved: we began registering metadata (titles, authors, bibliographies), later expanding to include publishers, abstracts, ORCID IDs, and licenses by 2025.
These enhancements boosted our indexing in databases like OpenAlex, making our content more discoverable. In fact, following the registration of the Creative Commons licence, all our journals that were previously wrongly registered as subscription-based are now listed as open-access journals. Our journey also unlocked new tools: in 2018, we integrated Crossref’s API to match references, and in 2021, we added the Cited-by feature for hosted journals. We even developed custom solutions, like a tool to identify missing articles in NASA ADS, ensuring our journals’ presence in key databases.
Recent milestones include registering DOIs for books (2020) and translations (2023), and adopting the Pending Publications tool in OJS.
